MEET LYDIA

Lydia Bean is a mother, small business owner, and community leader who has taken on tough fights - and won. The daughter of a teacher and a pastor who put their own safety on the line to stand up for their neighbors, Lydia has always fought for what she believes in. In 2014, she founded Faith in Texas, a nonprofit organization that brings people of different faith backgrounds together to work for change. Under Lydia’s leadership, Faith in Texas was instrumental in protecting Texas families from predatory payday lenders and securing paid sick leave for workers.
Lydia founded and is President of Equipa, a consulting firm that advises non-profits and foundations on strategy, evaluation and leadership development. She is a co-founder of the Tarrant County Faith and Justice Coalition and chair of the Justice Committee at Broadway Baptist Church, which helps citizens advocate for their priorities with Tarrant County government. In February 2024, Lydia helped convince the Tarrant County Commissioner’s Court to cancel a multi-million dollar contract with a private prison that failed state inspection.
Lydia graduated from Austin College and holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University. She is the author of The Politics of Evangelical Identity and is a former professor at Baylor University. She has written about faith, politics, and civic engagement for the Washington Post, Vox, and Washington Monthly. Lydia’s husband, Norman Lee, is a public artist. They live in Arlington with their two young children and are members of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
A proven problem solver who brings people together, Lydia is running for County Judge to deliver tangible results for Tarrant County. Tim O’Hare has turned his back on Tarrant County, putting his extreme political agenda and corporate special interest donors ahead of the people he’s supposed to serve. Lydia will always put our community first and is ready to hit the ground running to invest in our infrastructure and restore the rights of all Tarrant County residents to be heard in county government.
I want my son and daughter to grow up in Tarrant County with opportunity and safety for all. That’s what I will fight for every day in the Commissioner's Court.

WHY I'M RUNNING
As a community leader, I've taken on the big fights: guaranteeing paid sick days, cracking down on payday lenders, speaking up for fairness and fiscal responsibility in county government. Now I want to fight for a Tarrant County that provides safety and opportunity for all of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected.
